The Warehouse How To Get Involved

InterVol’s recovery program, Recovery of Unused Medical Supplies (RUMS) saves medical supplies and equipment that otherwise would be destroyed or placed in area landfills.

Medical equipment that is outdated by American standards is still “ahead of the technology curve” overseas.  Many overseas hospitals are desperate for all of the basics, including microscopes, centrifuges and autoclaves. Many patients are required to buy their own medical supplies, or go without care.

Please call us to discuss how we can work together to create the right relationship that saves your supplies from disposal and provides them to someone truly in need.  Call (585) 922-5276 or email rums@intervol.org today.

The phases of the Recovery of Unused Medical Supplies (RUMS) Program are Education, Collection, Sorting, and Distribution. During the education phase, health care facilities are offered an educational presentation on the benefits of the RUMS program, and how the program can be implemented.

InterVol makes scheduled collection visits and coordinates special pick ups for larger items and equipment. Warehouse volunteers sort and inventory the incoming supplies into over one hundred categories for shipping.

InterVol works closely with many local, national and international organizations including health care facilities, clinics, medical education programs, schools, and the regional humane societies to distribute the supplies and equipment.

Besides the benefit to the environment, millions of dollars of medical supplies and equipment are made available to overseas hospitals and medical clinics that lack access to these badly needed resources.

InterVol’s Goals: save money, protect the environment, & reduce waste...The RUMS program saves the donating facility the expense of disposal and reduces the environmental impact of landfill use and of the incineration of medical waste.

The supplies and equipment are donated to local community organizations and to developing countries—including; humane societies, schools, medical education programs, and foreign hospitals.

We are also able to analyze the disposal practices of health care facilities to develop recommendations for waste reduction and recycling supplies back into the facility.
