Happy 2018! As we’re now a week into the new year, it’s the perfect time to talk about resolutions.
Lots of people make them. Lose weight, eat healthier, quit smoking, save more money. Most don’t keep them because they’re all about giving something up.
But volunteering isn’t about giving something up; it’s about giving something back. And it’s a lot easier to do than people think!
Because volunteerism can take so many different forms, all it requires is for you to do more of something you already enjoy doing. Love to bake? Have a bake sale. Want to spend more time with your kids? Turn your volunteer work into a family outing. Addicted to quilting? Make an extra and donate it to a charity raffle.
And you know what? When you give back, you’ll end up getting more in return than a craving for those cupcakes you swore off. You’ll get back children’s smiles and parents’ tears of thanks. You’ll get back cheerfulness, hope, and joy. Most of all, you’ll get back the realization that you’ve just made the world a better place to live.
